The mission of the Mechanical Engineering Student Advisory Board (MESAB) is to enhance
communication between students and faculty on courses and curriculum. Within the past
three years, MESAB has undertaken many new tasks. Prior to this, the group would meet with
department faculty to discuss student views on courses and curriculum changes. As the
group became more known, they took on more responsibilities such as the Mechanical
Engineering Banquet. The ME Banquet is held at the end of the spring semester. At the
banquet, professors and students are rewarded for work that they have done in the previous
year.
This year the group took on a project to get put course websites up for
each class in the ME department (MESAB Web Project). There are 15 students currently
working with professors on these websites using Microsoft FrontPage. In addition to
continuing course webpages, some of the group members have been helping the department to
develop research topics that will covered in the new sophomore design course (ME270).
