Items that you need to think about...

Co-op/Intern/Summer Course Registration

You will need to visit with your advisor about registering for Cooperative Education, Internship and Summer Work programs. 396 for Summer ONLY, 397 For Internship (1 semester); 396 and 397 for Internship (summer plus 1 semester); 298, 398, 498 for Cooperative Education, and 697 for Graduate Students out during a semester or summer. Registering for these courses allows you to maintain full-time status while working. As a full-time student your federal student loans will not enter repayment. There are no ISU fees or tuition involved in registering for these courses.

Company Benefits

What about travel/housing/company medical insurance/wages? Does the employer offer any of these benefits? Are you going to receive hourly, weekly or monthly compensation?

Start-up Resources

You will incur costs the semester you are gone. Do you have the resources to get started at the new company location? Travel, deposit on housing, telephone, etc.

Graduate Level Assistantships

Will you receive any assistantship funding from Iowa State University during the term that you will be away on internship? You may not receive assistantship funding for longer than 5 days into the term. If you receive funding for longer than 5 days, you will be assessed full tuition, regardless of your credit load. Additionally, you must be on appointment for at least three months (six weeks during the summer) to qualify for a Graduate College tuition scholarship.

Registering For Classes While Off Campus (Undergraduate students only)

You will need to register for the courses that you intend to take the semester you return. Your off-campus address and phone number obtained from the Employment Information Sheet will be forwarded to the Registrars Office and your advisor. You may also update this information through AccessPlus. Email or call your advisor if there is a problem or you need assistance.
