Suggestions To Make Your Interview Run Smoothly

  1. You should have received an email from ISU CMS to your iastate.edu email address, reminding you of the date, time and location of your interview. Most interviews will be held in Marston on the 3rd floor.

  2. Based on where the interview will be held, students are directed to wait inside Room 305 or in the hallway directly outside of Room 314.  The recruiters will come out and get you.

  3. You must take your book bags, etc. with you.  Please do not leave your "belongings" in Room 308.   There are small lockers available in the Men’s and Women’s restrooms on the third floor of Marston.  It requires a quarter to remove the key, but when you use the key to open the locker you can retrieve the quarter.

  4. Remember that we do have a cancellation/no show policy which we strictly enforce.  See the Interview cancellation/no show policy for the specific information.

  5. If you need to change an interview time after the schedule has closed, you will need to do this through our office by calling 294-9536.

  6. Business attire for interviews!!!!  Students are expected to wear suits if they are interviewing for full-time employment.  If you are interviewing for co-op, intern or summer employment and you do not own a suit, please wear dress pants (or nice khaki slacks) and a nice shirt/blouse.  Guys should wear a tie!  Remember that first impressions count!  Present yourself accordingly!!!

  7. Be prepared!!!  If a transcript is required, in most cases you can use a copy of your Access Plus transcript. Please remember to type your name on the copy of the transcript.

  8. Follow up with a thank you letter or e-mail within 24 hours of your interview.  Advice from an employer -- also include another copy of your personal resume with the letter.  Recruiters interview literally hundreds of candidates.  This is a nice way for them to remember who you are.

  9. In some situations, the employer may designate  that attendance at the Information Session is mandatory.  If the employer does not mention that it is mandatory, you are strongly advised to attend. When you do not attend, the employer may assume that you are not interested when they see you at the interview. Also if you were not able to get on an interview schedule, take advantage of these information meetings!!!!  It could result in a job!!!!!
