Cancelling Interviews You are encouraged to use your ISU CMS account to apply for possible interviews and jobs listings. ISU CMS is available at https://ecms.eng.iastate.edu/students. |
What happens if you schedule an interview and you need to cancel? Students must cancel an interview 48 hours prior to the interview date. The employer scheduled travel based upon your commitment to interview. Your professional courtesy to cancel is important. To cancel an interview 48 hours prior to the interview, access your ISU CMS account:
- From the header select, Interviews, and then click on the tab Scheduled Interviews,
- Choose the appropriate interview and on the right, click Cancel.
If you do not cancel 48 hours prior to the interview, what do you need to do?

Contact Engineering Career Services at ecs@iastate.edu. We will inform the employer that you will not be at the interview and you must write a letter of apology. You will need to follow the process described in the No Show Policy.
No Show / Late Cancellation Policy
If you are a no show or cancel late for an interview, the following steps are taken:
- Your ISU CMS account is blocked and you are informed by email.
- Stop by 308 Marston to obtain the contact information for the recruiter. Addresses cannot be provided by e-mail or phone.
- Within three business days of the missed interview, write a formal business letter of apology, bring the letter to 308 Marston in an open addressed stamped envelope. This letter is not sent by e-mail. E-mail is a communication of urgency. Postal mail can be accessed at the recruiter’s convenience.
- Your account will be unblocked when the professional letter is delivered and approved by Engineering Career Services.
- Guidelines for a professional business letter will be provided.
- You get 2 warnings, on the 3rd missed interview you lose your ISU CMS privileges permanently.
If you do not complete the apology letter in three business days or you miss a second interview, the following steps are taken:
- Your account is disabled.

The disable is removed
when you provide the letter and meet with
Engineering Career Services staff. In this meeting
you must petition to reinstate the use of your
account.
- You get 2 warnings and on the 3rd missed interview you lose your ISU CMS privileges permanently.
Work Authorization
If there is a question about your work authorization according to information supplied by a recruiter, the following steps are taken:
- You are informed by e-mail that your account is blocked/disabled.
- You are asked to meet with Engineering Career Services Services staff to petition for your ISU CMS account rights back.
- You get one warning and then you lose your ISU CMS privileges permanently.
