Grading Scheme

Class Project Web Page: 15%
Quizzes: 40% (best 3 out of 4)
Final exam is optional and weighs in your grade the same as a quiz (see below).

Quiz Policies and Final Exam

A. Your quiz grade is based on the best 3 out of 4 quizzes.  The final is optional and will have the weight of a quiz.  You may take the final if you feel the grades of your best 3 (out of the 4) quizzes are not satisfactory to you.  The final exam will not lower your grade, so if you do worse on the final you may choose to throw out the final exam grade.  In any case I will take the 3 best quiz/final scores you have.   Make-ups will be given for sickness and other unavoidable business cleared in advance. Makeup quizzes will be the same as regular, so students are on the honor system to not give or receive information about the quiz until every student has taken it. Quizzes and final exam are closed book, but you are allowed a formula sheet, 8-1/2 by 11, both sides, for each quiz, and plus an extra sheet for the final.

B. You are responsible for anything I write on the board during a quiz. Be alert.

C. Quizzes and final exam are closed book. See above for information about formula sheets.

D. If you do not understand what I am asking in a quiz problem, ask me during the quiz - don't tell me later that the problem was unclear. If you have a question during a quiz, come forward and ask me personally. Do not speak out and disturb the other students.

E. When you come forward to hand in your quiz, hand it in. Do not stand there and reconsider your answers. Quizzes are due at the end of the class period.

F. On a quiz, please show and explain all work if you hope for partial credit.

G. I will reconsider grading if you feel that you did not get fair treatment. You must come to me within a week to get a re-grade. I will never lower your grade.
