Coffman has held numerous leadership roles including chairman of the President’s National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee and chair of the Aerospace Industries Association.Four alumni will receive the Professional Achievement Citation in Engineering.
William C. Anderson, a ’67 alumnus in civil engineering, is executive director of the Council of Engineering & Scientific Specialty Boards. As director of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers in the 1990s, Anderson led a team that created the professional environmental engineering licensing examination still used by many states today. He is author or co-author of more than 100 environmental engineering technical and policy articles and has pioneered several seminal publications in the field. Nathaniel Sill Fox, who earned his MS and PhD in civil engineering in 1966,is known worldwide for his innovative geotechnical engineering solutions. As a military engineer, Fox pioneered the use of lime and lime-cement soil stabilization for improving highway and airfield construction methods for unstable soils. In 1990, Fox invented a new concept in ground improvement to support commercial buildings. Geopier® soil reinforcement is used across the United States and in 11 other countries. Bruce H. Grasser, a 1964 alumnus in chemical engineering, has served as managing director of mergers and acquisitions for Lubrizol Corporation since 2002.
