Pratt & Whitney engine to be dedicated February 22
An F-100 Pratt & Whitney engine, donated by the Iowa Air National Guard (ANG) to the Department of Aerospace Engineering, will be dedicated on Tuesday, February 22, at 4:30 p.m. in the Howe Hall atrium. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to the ceremony and the reception that follows.

“The F-100 is a wonderful addition to our learning lab and museum,” says Tom Shih, AerE chair. “This engine is used in the F-16 fighter aircraft and is recognized for its performance and reliability. It will provide our students an excellent opportunity to see and examine the many components of this highly sophisticated engine and gain an appreciation of how it works. We are very grateful to the Iowa Air National Guard for donating it to us.”

Five members of the Iowa ANG will be on hand for the dedication.

NSBE focuses on involvement
Iowa State’s chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) was recognized at the Region 5 Conference in Houston, Texas, last fall for having the most activities in the Missouri Zone. That record pace continues this semester with a variety of professional development and outreach activities. Special outreach events planned as part of NSBE Week (February 14–19) include the following:
Tuesday—fundraiser (selling doughnuts) and going around to meet and greet engineering faculty members; funds will be used for attending the national conference in Boston in March
Wednesday—NSBE t-shirt day; A Walk for Education at the North Grand Mall, 6–7 p.m.
Saturday—Science and Engineering Exposition for middle school students, 10 a.m. –2 p.m.
