College convocation, September 29
All faculty and staff are invited to the College of Engineering Convocation on Friday, September 29, at 3:10 p.m. in the Alliant Energy-Lee Liu Auditorium in Howe Hall. Six college awards will also be presented. Congratulations to Doug Beck, ME, Superior Engineering Advisor Award; Ted Heindel, ME, Superior Engineering Teacher Award; Shauna Hallmark, CCEE, Young Engineering Faculty Research Award; Ralph Napolitano, MSE, Young Engineering Faculty Research Award; Michael Gary Olsen, ME, Young Engineering Faculty Research Award; and Jody Danielson, CBE, Dean’s Staff Excellence Award.

The program also includes introduction of new faculty and staff, acknowledgement of promotion and tenure candidates, and recognition of three endowed positionsRodney Fox, Herbert L. Stiles Professorship in Chemical Engineering; Srinivas Aluru, Stanley Chair in Interdisciplinary Engineering; and Krishna Rajan, Stanley Chair in Interdisciplinary Engineering.
Dean Mark J. Kushner will present a State of the College address with a Q&A session. The program will be followed with a major gift announcement and reception at the Marston water tower.

Attention football fans!
If you’re looking for tickets to the Iowa State versus Nebraska game on October 7, you’re in luck. The College of Engineering is hosting a tailgate and has a limited supply of tickets for the tailgate and the game. The tailgate/ticket package is $85; or, if you already have a football ticket, the tailgate is $20 (children under 10 free). The tailgate, which will be on the southeast corner outside the stadium, includes full barbecue buffet and beverages. RSVP online with credit card (MasterCard or Visa) information. The deadline is Friday, September 29, or until the tickets are gone. All tickets will be held for pickup at the tailgate.
Career Fair sets record
A record-setting 306 companies participated in the 2006 Career Fair on September 19. “This is the most companies that have participated in an engineering career fair in the nation,” says Tyler Rasmussen, who co-chaired the event with David Lantz. Over 4,300 students attended the fair exploring full-time, co-op, and summer employment opportunities. The Career Fair was just one of the many successful events planned as part of the E-Week 2006 festivities.
Family Weekend open houses
The eight engineering departments are hosting open houses as part of Cyclone Family Weekend activities. The open houses are from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 30.
