It’s LEGO championship time

On Saturday, January 20, hundreds of 9- to 14-year-old kids representing 67 teams from throughout Iowa will converge on Howe and Hoover Halls to participate in the annual Iowa FIRST LEGO League Championship. The students will build and program LEGO robots to complete nine scientific missions based on the theme “Nano Quest.” Over 200 volunteers help to make this event a success. (Press release)

Each semester, a select group of graduate students is honored by Iowa State University for outstanding teaching or research. Congratulations to these engineering students who received awards for fall 2006.

CYtation winners

Congratulations to Gloria Hill, administrative specialist, engineering administration, and Anthony Moore, academic adviser, ECpE, who have been selected to receive CYtation awards on Friday, January 19, in the President’s Office. The awards, given semi-annually by the Professional and Scientific Council, recognize P&S staff from throughout the university who have demonstrated their commitment to excellence. National award to David White

The American Society of Civil Engineers’ Geo-Institute Board of Governors selected David White, assistant professor of geotechnical engineering, to receive the 2007 Arthur Casagrande Professional Development Award. This national award recognizes White’s achievements in the area of dynamic soil behavior, characterization, and testing using innovative soil system evaluation strategies. (Press release)

Coming soon—spring Career Fair

The spring Career Fair will be Tuesday, January 30, from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum. This is a great opportunity for students to look for summer, intern, co-op, or full-time positions, and it’s an opportunity for you to visit with the businesses that employ our students.
