Engineering Thematic Year—Energy Security and Sustainability
Iowa State University and the Engineering Policy and Leadership Institute rolled out the first Engineering Thematic Year on Energy Security and Sustainability this fall. The objective is to provide lawmakers and other key constituencies with thoughtful, well-articulated information that can help them in policymaking decisions. This year's program features national experts presenting their views on energy as it relates to national security, politics, supply and demand, efficiencies, renewable and nonrenewable alternatives, economics, and food production. Coming soon in Innovate
Don’t be fooled by the temporary drop in the price of gas: the long-term forecast is for relentlessly upward pressure on fossil fuels. This fall’s Innovate examines the work of Iowa State engineers to answer that challenge, both through the Engineering Thematic Year’s focus on energy and new research initiatives in solar technologies, industrial chemicals from biorenewable feedstocks, and improvements to the venerable internal combustion engine. So leave the car in the garage for a few hours and make a date with America’s energy future this fall in Innovate.
