Engineering contributes to Iowa State Solar Decathlon team

The College of Engineering is a key participant on the Iowa State University Solar Decathlon team that has been selected to compete in the fourth U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon. Ten faculty members from five engineering departments, and several engineering student organizations are members of the Iowa State team, which has faculty and students from five colleges across campus. The DOE selected 20 teams from 25 colleges and universities, and each team will be awarded $100,000 over two years to design, build, and operate an attractive and energy-efficient solar-powered home for the competition. Projects in past competitions have cost as much as $500,000.The teams will showcase their homes in fall 2009 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
