Orientation in full swing

Around 950 members of the 2005 freshman class are visiting campus for orientation during June. The day and a half each student spends on campus is crammed full of activities, but this year may be just a bit easier than in the past. “Our students are taking the math placement tests online before they come,” says Mary Goodwin, program coordinator, engineering undergraduate programs. “We’re trying out a new system using WebCT. It frees up some time and hopefully will make their experience more pleasant.”

In addition to the dedicated faculty and staff who meet with students and their parents, an enthusiastic team of Cyclone Aides helps guide the newcomers through the maze of what they need to know and do to be successful at Iowa State. The 2005–2006 Cyclone Aides from engineering are Alexa Billings, Mike Fritz, Jill Lansing, Megan Morrissey, and Koda Sanborn.
