  • Submitted a 'Statement of Honors Purpose' to the University Honors Office which was approved
  • Attended an Honors Orientation session before submitting your POS. (Go to Program of Study and Point Count link.)

Continued  membership allows you to participate in the activities in the University Honors Program, including seminars and honors housing, while you develop a program of study.

Post freshman year entrance

If you left or never participated in the FHP, you may join the Honors Program by completing an Honors application and having

  • Maintained 3.35 cumulative GPA or better
  • 48 credits remaining before graduation.
  • An approved 'Statement of Honors Purpose.'
  • Attended an Honors Orientation session before submitting your POS.
  • If joining with 48 credits remaining, you must submit your POS the same semester you join.

Staying in "Good Standing"

  • Continuing cumulative GPA of 3.35 or above.
  • Program of Study (POS) submitted once you have 60 credits remaining until graduation, normally at the beginning of your junior year.
  • Honors Project approved two semesters prior to graduation.  The project must be presented not later than the semester before graduation.

Developing your POS

  • Since most of the program enhancements in engineering are done with the upper-level courses, and the educational goals should be well-researched to support your career goals, the following courses should be completed prior to submitting your POS.
Major Course
AeroE AeroE 201
AE AE 203 or AE 216 (credit)
EE EE 201
CprE CprE 210
CE CE 203
ChemE ChE 210 (credit)
ConE ConE 110 and 221 (credit in both)
IE IE 271 (credit)
MatE MatE 211 (credit)
ME ME 270 or 231 (Credit or enrollment)
  • Your Program of Study should have:
    • Well-defined educational goals that support your career goals
    • Clearly identified course work that makes your program of study have a higher academic challenge than the requirements of your major

Review of Academic Progress

Once a member, your previous semester GPA and cumulative GPA will be evaluated at the beginning of each semester.

Honors Project

  • Completing an honors project (490H) for a minimum of 2 credits of independent study is required.
  • 490H credits beyond the 2 cr. minimum may be applied toward your curriculum requirements, such as technical electives.
  • The honors project must be done with a faculty advisor.
  • You will need to define the project and develop a work plan, at least one semester before doing the work.
  • You will present your work at the end of the semester in a poster session coordinated by the University Honors Program.
