The James M. Hoover Chair in Geotechnical Engineering honors the memory of a long-time civil engineering faculty member at Iowa State University. Hoover mentored his students to help them realize their full potential. He had a profound influence on many people. The Hoover Mentoring Workshop was
established to
- Provide a forum for engineering students, faculty, and
practitioners to learn about mentoring
- Motivate and inspire undergraduate and graduate students to
realize their full potential
- Encourage students to seek out a mentor
- Invite practicing engineers to be mentors
- Foster interaction between students, faculty, and practicing
engineers
- Provide resources to assist individuals in being good mentors
and mentees
- Host the James M. Hoover Lecture, an annual lecture by an eminent engineer
