Innovative Answers to Complex Problems

If you’ve always wanted to be part of something big and if you like the idea of conserving our natural resources and improving our food supply, agriculture and biosystems engineering may be the right choice for you.

As an agricultural and biosystems engineer, you can apply your knowledge of the biological, physical, and engineering sciences to solve problems for the world’s largest industry—agriculture and the food system. Whether it’s designing equipment for more efficient farming, developing methods to improve water and soil quality, or implementing innovative ideas to improve the quality and safety of food, agricultural engineers contribute their knowledge and expertise toward safer and more productive agricultural practices.

Agriculture and Biosystems Engineering Profession
Agricultural biosystems engineers design agricultural and biologic systems to conserve natural resources. They identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems related to soil conservation, soil-plant atmosphere, animal waste, air quality, drainage, and irrigation systems.

You might choose to use your skills in designing the next generation off-road vehicles and agricultural and power machinery equipment. Using engineering principles and computer-aided technology, you could solve problems related to production, storage, handling, distribution, and processing of food. A knowledge of structural and environmental engineering would enable you to design agricultural buildings and environmental control systems for efficient livestock production and crop storage.
