Making at Difference

As the technology revolution continues, as the world’s population increases, as the infrastructure ages, and as environmental concerns mount, society will continue to look to civil engineers for the best solutions to its problems. This is truly a profession for people who want to contribute to a better world.

The Civil Engineering Profession
Civil engineers plan, design, and manage projects ranging from highways to high-rise buildings. They are problem-solvers, searching for solutions to the challenges of modern life, improving the quality of our environment, transporting people and freight, supplying our energy needs, and building structures to shelter people and material.

If you pursue a degree in civil engineering, your work could touch the lives of others every day. You’ll make a dramatic impact on our society’s safety, health, and productivity. You’ll be able to plan, design, and oversee the construction, operation, and maintenance of facilities vital to modern life in both the private and public sectors—facilities that vary widely in nature, size, and scope—from the Sears Tower to the Golden Gate Bridge.
