Problem Solving with Technology

A worldwide data network with high resolution images and two-way audio and video communication capabilities; cars that avoid accidents; washing machines that are voice activated; robots that really think—these are just a few of the technological advances electrical engineering will bring to the 21st century. If you are interested in contributing to exciting innovations like these, consider pursuing a major in electrical engineering.

The Electrical Engineering Profession
Electrical engineers tackle design, development, applications, marketing, and research in various industries. In the workplace, electrical engineers
  • design electronic circuits used in computers, televisions, and other electronic equipment
  • develop communication systems for worldwide telephone, cable, and satellite systems
  • design antennas and microwave circuits for radar, remote sensing, and space exploration
  • study signal processing to improve the quality of television pictures, locate cracks in jet engine turbines, or determine where to drill for oil
  • design fiber-optic networks that carry hundreds of simultaneous conversations
  • design integrated circuits that contain millions of transistors
  • improve the efficiency and reliabilty of electric power distribution
  • design high efficiency motors for appliances, industry, and electric vehicles
