Freshmen Leaders in Engineering (FLiE) was created in the spring of 1999 by Iowa State's Engineering Student Council. FLiE gives freshmen leadership experience while helping them become more involved in the College of Engineering and on campus. Throughout its short existence, FLiE has evolved into a club with over 30 freshman members and sophomore leaders.
The members of FLiE are divided into several committees that harbor and maintain a variety of projects throughout the school year. FLiE focuses on both current and potential ISU students. While the members plan events for current engineering students, they also work on outreach and recruitment of high school students who have expressed an interest in engineering at Iowa State. FLiE aspires to grow and expand in the future in order to become more prevalent on campus and to provide more opportunities for both current students and incoming freshmen.
