A. Background Information The Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering (IMSE) awards the degree of Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (BSIE). Students with an excellent scholastic record (3.35+ GPA) can participate in the Honors program, which requires the development of an enhanced course of study that focuses in a unique area and requires the completion of an honors project during the senior year. Students meeting these requirements receive their BSIE degree with Honors. Co-op students who have completed the required amount of work experience receive their degree with a Co-op Certificate. Another option for students to increase their skills and employability is the selection of a minor; management is currently the most popular area for our students. The Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering, typically earned by day students. Recently, the College has developed The Four-Year Graduation Plan as a way to help students who want to graduate within four years. Students who choose to participate in the Four-Year Graduation Plan work closely with their advisers to meet the requirements for completing the degree for their major in four years. Students who follow the conditions of the plan will be assured that the courses needed for graduation will be available. The academic curricula are outlined on eight-semester planning templates available from the academic departments. Students may sign-up for the Four Year Plan through their adviser. Students may become involved with the University Honors Program. Those interested in joining the University Honors Program have two different membership options- Associate and Full. As an associate member they must
As a full member they must:
Students interested in applying for full membership must complete the honors application packet with the assistance of the curriculum honors adviser. This packet consists of:
The committee reviews the program for honors content. Honors content is very individualized and focuses on meeting the academic goal described in the students educational objective statement. This may be accomplished by taking technical courses beyond the minimum required for the degree, becoming involved in research activities, adding an honors component to a non-honors course, enrolling in several honors seminars and courses offered by the institution, expanding social science and humanities electives normally required, etc. Once approved by the committee, the application is submitted to the college classification coordinator for approval. Before graduation, any changes to the students originally approved honors program must be approved by the college honors committee and college coordinator.
