Alex Zikra: NUS - Singapore

Alex and his friends in a food market.

I wanted to do something different, something I would probably never have the opportunity to do again.  I wanted to go somewhere I would never go on my own.  Our engineering study abroad advisor, Shannon, recommended the National University of Singapore.  After doing some research, I was sold.  I applied, was accepted, and bought my plane ticket!

While my friends were bundling up for their chilly walk to their Monday morning 8AM classes, I was relaxing at the on-campus outdoor pool enjoying my no-class Monday afternoon.  Studying abroad, particularly in Singapore, was an experience that I can't put into workds.  I lived in a culture that I hardly knew existed. I can now say that I have friends in the Netherlands, Vietnam, Canada, Singapore, Britain, Israel, and more.

The food, the people, and the school was fantastic. I was able to visit  places like Indonesia, Australia, Hong Kong, and Malaysia to name a few (cheaply, too!).

If you can imagine taking coursework in an exciting location, then you can imagine studying abroad. From the golden sunsrise at the peak of Mount Kinabulu in Borneo, Malaysia, to the brilliant Hong Kong skyline, the study abroad program has something for everyone.

Studying abroad can be less expensive than a semester at ISU, if you pick the right program. The least you can do is to make an appointment in the Engineering International Programs office and explore your options. Just give it chance, you won't regret it! Good luck!
