Incoming ELP Class of 2007 Upper Scholar Biographies
Ben is a Senior in Computer Engineering with a minor in
Psychology. He intends to continue into the graduate
Information Assurance program at Iowa State. He is
the President of the Iowa State Information Assurance
Student Group, Co-Director of the Iowa State Cyber
Defense Competitions, an undergraduate research
assistant at the Internet-Scale Event and Attack
Generation Environment, and a Network Administrator at
the Krell Institute. Ben is primarily interested
in developing intelligent computer networks modeled
after our own neural systems and cognitive processes
which can defend and heal themselves. In his free
time Ben enjoys reading, soccer, racquetball, playing
piano, and playing with his pet giant millipede!
Kristin Crawford is a junior in
Aerospace Engineering.
She is a member of The 10,000 Hours Show staff,
Alpha Lambda Delta – Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society
executive board, Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity,
AIAA, and the University Honors Program.
She is also currently working in the
Leigh Cumpston
Leigh Cumpston is senior in Chemical Engineering. She is also working on a minor in Economics.
On campus, Leigh is involved with SWE, AIChE, and Tau Beta Pi. Leigh has completed four
Co-op terms with The
Dow Chemical Company and an internship with The Boeing Company. In her free time, Leigh enjoys watching and dancing ballet, reading, spending time with her friends and family and traveling.
After graduation, Leigh plans to work in industry and pursue her MBA.
Joe Goering
Joe is a junior majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He is involved with Engineering Student Council, TEAM, and the Program for Spaceborne and Earthbound System Sustainability (PSESS).
In his free time, Joe enjoys being outside, spending time with his family, playing golf, working out and working on restoration projects
After graduation Joe plans on going into industry and earning his MBA.
Allison Machtemes
Allison is a senior in Civil Engineering. She is involved in the
Society of Women Engineers and Chi Epsilon. In her free
time she likes playing and watching golf, playing her
cello, and spending time with family and friends.
Within Civil Engineering, Allison is interested in a
structural emphasis and plans to concurrently receive
her MBA.
Jenna Meier
Jenna is senior majoring in Industrial Engineering. She is a member of Kappa
Kappa Gamma Sorority as well as SIE, Dance Marathon, and E-Week..
Jenna recently studied abroad in Swansea, Wales! In her free time
Jenna enjoys running, playing basketball and volleyball, reading, and traveling.
After completing her undergraduate degree, Jenna plans on working in industry
while working towards an MBA.
Wes
Meier
Wes Meier is
a senior in Mechanical Engineering. Wes wants to pursue
a career as a Project Engineer and possible work abroad.
He is also involved in E-Week, Dance Marathon, Pi Kappa
Phi, Honduras Ministry Committee, Mechanical Engineering
Learning Team Leader, and a Trip Leader at the ISU
Outdoor Recreation Program.
Jessica Meredith
Jessica is a senior majoring in Construction Engineering
and getting a minor in Entrepreneurial Studies. She is a
member of The Association of General Contractors (AGC),
The Engineering Ambassador and Mentor Program (TEAM),
Student Admissions Representatives (STARs), is a peer
mentor for the Cornerstone Freshmen Learning Community
and was a Co-Chair for Engineer's Week in 2007. In her
free time she enjoys reading, volunteering, scrapbooking
and spending time with her friends and family. After
completing her undergraduate degree she plans on getting
an MBA and then go on to work for a residential
developer with the hopes of starting her own business.
Tom Turner
Tom is a senior majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He
was recently the Co-Chair for the Engineer's Week Career
Fair. He has also been an Engineer's Week
ambassador. In his free time, Tom enjoys the outdoors,
welding, hockey, spending time with family and reading.
Within his major, Tom is interested in engineering
economics, bio-diesel power and hydraulic power.
Tom plans on entering the concurrent BSME/MBA program.
