Adam Bragg
Adam Bragg“It is important for engineers to become leaders because we need leadership in our society where technology plays such an integral role.  Leaders with engineering backgrounds can help plan for the future better by understanding the technical details in situations as they arise.  The economy and human life itself depends on technology and continued research and development in order to make the world a great place to live and grow.  Engineers as leaders can help attain such broad goals."

Adam Bragg is a senior in Mechanical Engineering and was selected as a 3M Scholar during the Spring '06 semester. Adam's hobbies include playing baseball, softball, and ultimate Frisbee. Adam also enjoys water sports such as waterskiing and wakeboarding. On campus, Adam plays an integral role in the continued development of the Engineering Leadership Program. Adam has most recently accepted a full time position with Flint Hills Resources, LP located in Rosemount, MN. Adam's goals include working to develop alternative fuels from an industry perspective in addition to incorporating engineering leadership at a national level.

Nuku Doamekpor
Nuku Doamekpor

“We need leaders that will understand and be knowledgeable on issues concerning the forefront of technological advancement.  We also need these leaders to communicate with others in terms that will be understood.  You can be the smartest person in the universe, but if you cannot communicate your intentions with the average person, then your point is moot.”

Nuku Doamekpor is a sophomore in Aerospace Engineering and was selected as a 3M Scholar during the Spring '06 semester.  Nuku’s hobbies include Tae-Kwon-Do, tennis, reading, and drawing.  Organizations on campus that Nuku is involved with are the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Iowa State Space Society.  Within NSBE he was the Public Relations/Publications Chair for the 2005-2006 year and now is the Secretary for the 2006-2007 year.  Nuku also received the 2005 Leadership award from the National Society of Black Engineers, Iowa State Chapter.

Nuku plans on continuing his education after he graduates by pursuing a Masters degree.  After that, Nuku would like to obtain employment with a reputable Aerospace company and become a project manager.

Sasha Kemmet
no photo“Engineers are in the unique position to appreciate the promises of technology as well as understand its limitations. Because of this understanding, they are well equipped to utilize technology to effectively address pressing issues. Engineers should be concerned with leadership because of the contributions they can make to the greater good. Engineers have the technical background needed to understand the capabilities of technology when properly implemented. From this comes a duty to educate the public and play an active role in ensuring technology is used to accomplish the greatest good.”

Sasha is a graduate student in Electrical Engineering and was selected as a 3M Scholar during the Spring '06 semester.  Sasha's hobbies include running, climbing, hiking, playing soccer and reading.  On campus, Sasha has served as the ISU Chapter President for the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Co-founder of the Dean Student Advisory Council, and as an Electrical Engineering Learning Community Mentor.  She has also been the recipient of the Everitt Award and the Engineering Deans' Leadership Awards.

Sasha has completed internships with John Deere, Meredith, WISE (Washington Internship for Students of Engineering [IEEE-USA]), and Digi International.  Sasha is the recipient of the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. After completing her master's, Sasha plans to pursue her PhD.

Brandon Kennedy
Brandon"I feel it's important for engineers to become leaders because the use of technology is becoming commonplace in daily activities everywhere in the world. Without leaders who have technical backgrounds, such as engineers, decisions made involving technology and things technical in nature will lack proper support and understanding by those who make them. Also, the world is moving faster everyday because of technology. Those who influence this trend, mostly politicians, need to have technical backgrounds if the world is to move forward smoothly and become a more advanced and global community."

Brandon Kennedy is a concurrent student in Mechanical Engineering (BS) and the Masters of Business Administration (MBA) program. He was selected as a 3M Scholar during the Spring 2006 semester. Brandon’s hobbies include reading, volunteering, hanging out with friends, mentoring, and traveling. On campus Brandon is the President of the National Society of Black Engineers Iowa State University chapter and is active in both the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Learning Community. Outside of school, he’s the co-founder and President/CEO of the Barista Café, which is a student-owned and operated coffee shop.

As far as Brandon’s long-term professional goals, he plans on working in industry, preferably as a manager for a manufacturing or engineering consulting company. If not already partaking in entrepreneurial ventures on the side while working, he plans on starting his own company one day with hopes of becoming a serial entrepreneur.
