    1. Course Name: Chem 178 General Chemistry & Chem 178L Laboratory in General Chemistry

    2. Catalog Description: Chem 178. General Chemistry. Cr. 3 lecture. Chem 178L. Laboratory in General Chemistry. Cr. 1 lab. Continuation of 177. Recommended for physical or biological science majors, chemical engineering majors, and all others intending to take 300-level chemistry courses. Only one of 164 and 178 may be counted toward graduation. Credit by examination (test-out exams) for 163, 164, 167, 177, and 178 is available only to students who are not currently enrolled in the course.

    3. Prerequisites: Chem 177, 177L; For 178L, previous credit or enrollment for credit in 178. Laboratory to accompany 178. 178L is not a necessary corequisite with 178.

    4. Textbook/Materials: Brown, LeMay, and Bursten, (1997). Chemistry: The Central Science, 7th edition, Prentice Hall, 1997.
