Alumni Association Honors

The Iowa State University Alumni Association recently honored five persons associated with the College of Engineering.

Albert Hsu, PhDME’95, and David H. Sanders, BSCCE’84, each received an Outstanding Young Alumnus Award. Hsu, of Troy, Michigan, is a senior project manager at Ford Motor Company, where he provides engineering solutions to support design, improve product quality, shorten product delivery time, and reduce costs. Sanders, an associate professor of civil engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno, is known worldwide for his excellent theoretical understanding of structures.

Ken Jolls, ChE professor, received a faculty citation for inspiring service to students, alumni, Iowa State, and the profession.

Jolls developed computer graphics software to help engineering students master the complex, abstract subject of thermodynamics. Many universities worldwide use his programs. Jolls is also an accomplished jazz musician.

Martha Clifford, secretary to the Mechanical Engineering Advising Center, is the latest recipient of the Superior Service Award. A member of the ME department since 1987, she was the first secretary to staff the advising center and has been invaluable to increasing retention of first-year students.

The awards were presented at homecoming.
