to step down in June James L. Melsa, dean of engineering at Iowa State since 1995, has announced his retirement, effective June 30, 2004. College receives largest gift in ISU History The College of Engineering has received the largest in-kind grant in the history of Iowa State University. The grant, which has a commercial value of $282 million, was given by EDS PLM Solutions to provide students with industry-grade software tools for product lifecycle management. College starts year with three new chairs Three of the colleges departments are under new leadership. The new chairs are Tom Shih, aerospace engineering; Arun Somani, electrical and computer engineering; and Judy Vance, mechanical engineering. Top award becomes a family affair Technology Review, a publication of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has named Balaji Narasimhan, associate professor of chemical engineering at Iowa State University, one of the worlds 100 Top Young Innovators for 2003.
