Readership Survey

The College of Engineering recently recognized six faculty members for their superior accomplishments.

Top research award to Trivedi

Rohit Trivedi, Anson Marston Distinguished Professor of Engineering in MSE, is the recipient of the 1999 David R. Boylan Eminent Faculty Award in Research. The award, which is the college’s highest honor for faculty, recognizes national and international accomplishments in research and academic excellence. Trivedi’s contribution in the science of phase transformation and industrial processing of metals, alloys, intermetallic compounds, and semi-conductors has led to practical applications outside the realm of materials science—in particular, medicine, biology, and food processing. Trivedi’s work in freezing will enable scientists and medical doctors to preserve human organs for appropriate recipients instead of making the transplant immediately. A Fellow of ASM International, Trivedi has been a visiting professor at Stanford University, an invited professor at universities in Switzerland and France, and a consultant to NASA and the United Nations.

Outstanding achievement awards

Mustafa Khammash, ECpE associate professor, received the Young Engineering Faculty Research Award for his superior research contributions in the area of robust control theory and in the application of robust control analysis and design to large power systems.

Guillermo Maldonado, ME assistant professor, was recognized with the Young Engineering Faculty Research Award for his outstanding research contributions in optimization theory applied to the field of nuclear fuel management.

SayKee Ong, CCE assistant professor, was honored with the Superior Engineering Teacher Award for excellence in teaching, developing innovative teaching techniques, and nurturing
a learning environment for student success.

Mark Federle, CCE associate professor, was awarded the Superior Engineering Advisor Award for his exceptional work advising all preconstruc-tion engineering students and rewriting the ConE advising handbook.

James Cable, CCE associate professor, was recognized with the Superior Engineering Extension Award for his outstanding responsive-ness to client needs and his innovative programming, which have served to strengthen the college’s extension program.
