There is a sense of excitement and activity in the air as our senior engineering students prepare for graduation and the next phase of their lives. The majority of our graduates will enter fulltime employment by early June, working at companies nationwide in positions ranging from information security specialist to project engineer. A smaller percentage will pursue advanced engineering degrees at leading universities, and a few will grow companies that were started during their undergraduate years.

A world of opportunity awaits graduates of Iowa State's College of Engineering.

So strong is the demand for engineers that many Iowa State students are able to finalize their career plans weeks before commencement. Most accept employment in the U.S., in industry and government, in large firms and small companies. A smaller percentage pursue graduate studies.

Prospective employers continue to aggressively recruit Iowa State engineers. Nearly all students actively seeking employment receive two or more offers at average starting salaries of more than $46,000 a year. Selection criteria varies among students. Some, like Adam Batcheller, chemical engineering, choose employment close to home while others, like Jill Bigley, electrical and computer engineering, relocate thousands of miles from the Iowa State campus.
