John Hempstead outlives insurance policy
Iowa State alum and former engineering instructor Jean Hempstead, BSCCE’26, of Ames, is still very much alive and very happy to be giving some of his money away. He recently handed the proceeds of a life insurance policy to an Ames youth shelter, earning him an Outstanding Philanthropy Award from the group.
High-flying engineering
“I’ve always been an adrenaline junkie, and bungee jumping seemed to be the holy grail of death-defying stunts,” admits Carl Finocchiaro, whose thrill-seeking exuberance has steered him into some pretty unusual terrain.
