Members of the engineering leadership team are serving their profession at the national level in key positions. Dean James L. Melsa and Associate Dean Ted Okiishi have appointments with the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), a professional organization founded more than 110 years ago to promote and improve engineering and technology education. Melsa is ASEEs vice president for external affairs and chair of the projects board; Okiishi is vice president, institutional councils, and chair of the Engineering Research Council.
Associate Dean Dave Holger serves as chair of the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). His appointment continues through 2005. Among the most respected accreditation organizations in the U.S., ABET accredits more than 2,500 programs at 550 colleges and universities nationwide and also provides accreditation leadership internationally. ABETs president-elect for 2004-2005 is Richard Seagrave, Anson Marston Distinguished Professor Emeritus in the Department of Chemical Engineering. A member of the ABET board of directors for five years, Seagrave is currently completing his second term as ABET secretary.Members of the engineering faculty last year received more than 100 honors and awards for their service to the profession. Their work at national and international levels enhances the reputation of the college and strengthens professional networks, both of which are instrumental to the success of the colleges Reach for the Top initiative. |
