Alums on Baldrige Award-winning team at 3M
Jim Kouri, BSIE '63, manufacturing director for 3M's dental products
division in St. Paul, Minnestoa, is pleased his division is the first at
3M and only the second health care company to win one of the 32 Malcolm
Baldrige Quality Awards given in the 10 years of its existence.
The 700 employees of the division (including Christine Pearson, BSChE'87,
and Darin Meyertholen, BSME'90) determined that only by striving
to achieve grades of "excellent" in all product and service areas
could they set clear goals for performance improvement, increased sales,
and productivity gains at industry-leading rates.
Division employees worked together to define, implement, and sustain
their mission "to become THE supplier of choice for global dental markets
providing world-class quality and innovative products." The divison
manufactures more than 1300 dental products, including restorative materials,
crown and bridge materials, dental adhesives, and infection control products.
In the past 10 years, 3M's market share in the dental products division
has doubled. |
