If learning were a room, what would it look like?
This summer, the ECpE department will begin constructing a space dedicated to the concepts inherent in Project LEA/RN. Located in Coover Hall's high-bay space, The Active Learning Complex will provide students with extraordinary possibilities for teamwork and creativity. The flexible, innovative design of multi-use workspace clusters will facilitate outside-of-class collaborative learning in a high-tech environment. A faculty-student team worked with Walker Metzger Architects. "The LEA/RN concept informed the design and enabled the complex to gel," said ECpE Associate Professor Doug Jacobson. "We gave the architects specifics to design around so they could create an integrated space where students can team." Construction is expected to begin this summer and will take about six months. It is the first learning space of its kind at Iowa State. |
