Robert W. Davis, BSChE’35, Sun City, Arizona, recently won Low Net in his class at the Sun City Octogenerian Golf Championship after having spent two weeks in Hawaii last fall playing golf. He retired from Sherwin-Williams Company more than 20 years ago, but writes that he still has his slide rule!

Robert D. Friedgen, BSCE’49, La Mesa, California, retired in December as general manager of the Helix Water District in La Mesa after a 44-year career, which included 19 years as general manager. He credits his Iowa State College education for a “fantastic, rewarding career.”

Richard H. Stanley, BSEE’55, BSME’55, Muscatine, Iowa, received the 1998 Distinguished Award of Merit from the American Consulting Engineers Council. He is a Fellow in ACEC.

Sidney Banwart, BSChE’68, Dunlap, Illinois, is vice president of Caterpillar, Inc., in Peoria, Illinois.

Carroll W. Chambliss, PhDChE’66, Nashville, Tennessee, recently received the Distinguished Service Award from I. C. Thomasson Associates-Consulting Engineers for 25 years of dedicated service. He is a senior associate with the firm.

Dale Draper, BSAgE’61, Florence, South Carolina, is a structural engineer for tank truck and rail tank car loading systems and barge and ship gangways with the Aluminum Ladder Company/Alco-Lite Industries.

Robert Ingols, BSChE’67, Portola Valley, California, is the director of worldwide public relations at 3Com Corporation, still raising his family, and “helping to make 3Com the #1 brand among networking companies.”

Merlin J. Ricklefs, BSME’60, MST&AM’63, Rochester, Minnesota, co-founder and president of Quality Associates International, accepted an invitation to join the Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy at Thailand’s Chulalongkom University in Bangkok. He will serve as a visiting professor and advisor to the Federation of THAI Industries.

Paul Oh, PhDCerE’75, Roanoke, Virginia, is vice president of sales in the Far East and Pacific area for Optical Cable Corporation. Recently he traveled to Hong Kong and China seeking potential distributors of fiber optic cable products. He also gave an invited presentation at the 3rd International Meeting of Pacific Rim Ceramic Societies in South Korea.

Kevin R. Rogers, BSCE’77, Storm Lake, Iowa, became the city engineer for Storm Lake last April, and adopted a 14-month-old baby daughter, Stacy Anne, in May.

Greg Anderson, BSConE’84, Edina, Minnesota, is president of Welsh Construction Corporation, which recently placed eighth overall in a listing of the Twin Cities’ 50 fastest growing private companies, as compiled by City Business, the area’s weekly business newspaper.

Dave Harmelink, BSConE’88, MSCCE’90, PhDCCE’95, is an assistant professor in construction engineering and management at Purdue University, where he conducts research on linear scheduling with the Indiana DOT. The work is a continuation of the research he conducted with the Iowa DOT while an ISU student. It involves a new scheduling technique for highway construction projects called “visualization of project management,” comparing the work plan against actual work.

Mark Meswarb, BSME’82, Granbury, Texas, is a senior nuclear simulator analyst with the Comanche Peak Steam Electric Station in Glen Rose, Texas.

Abi Palaseyed, P.E., BSCE’81, San Diego, California, was recently promoted to supervising associate civil engineer in the field division of the City of San Diego.

Kevin Rens, BSCE’88, MSCE’89, PhDCE’94, is an assistant professor of civil engineering at the University of Colorado-Denver. He is conducting a two-part study of the deterioration of Denver’s bridges and bridge records with funding from the City and County of Denver. After creating a database, he will use that data to predict deterioration rates.

Randy J. Tinker, BSAgE’87, is development engineer/construction manager for QuikTrip Corporation and building new stores in Des Moines and Omaha.

Said Almaawali, BSConE’97, Muscat, Oman, has taken a job with Oman Liquified Natural Gas, a new company formed by the Omani government, Shell, and others. He is involved in the non-industrial buildings of a $2-billion natural gas plant currently under construction that will sell gas to Korea, India, and Japan.

Ritu Bhatnagar, BSCerE’95, West Des Moines, Iowa, has returned after two and a half years with the Peace Corps in Nepal and is enrolled at the University of Iowa for a second B.S.—this time in biology for a possible future as an orthopedic surgeon.

Scott Dickson, MSCCE’91, Columbus, Ohio, received a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in geography last May.

Larry Hasfjord, BSEE’94, Dearborn, Michigan, is technologies engineer for Detroit Diesel Corporation in the electronic controls hardware group, responsible for all highway electronics.

Joseph Kannel, BSCE’92, Ottawa, Illinois, was promoted to mixtures control engineer for the Illinois DOT, where he is responsible for inspection, design, and control of all bituminous and Portland cement concrete mixtures used in state projects in his district. He and his wife Tina had their first son, Mason, in December.
