Why Iowa State: When
I visited, I really liked the campus and how the
staff treated me. It’s a personal feel. You’re not
just a number here.
Faculty and Staff: I've
gotten to know one of my professors really well this
year. He's the person I know will help me out if I'm
having problems. I've also made great connections
with staff in
Multicultural Student Affairs.
Biggest Transition:
Going from speaking Spanish all the time to speaking
English. I sometimes forget that not everyone
understands Spanish. I've made many friends from
Spanish-speaking countries like Mexico, Ecuador, and
Peru.
And Your Transition to Cold
Weather? The winter wasn't as bad as what I
thought it would be.
President's Leadership Class:
I was one of 30 freshmen selected to be part of this
program. We meet at the President’s home each
Tuesday afternoon and discuss leadership. I’ve met a
lot of Iowa State’s leaders through this class.
Advice to New Students: Use the
tutoring
services. In high school, I never needed help
with school. In college, you can benefit by using
supplemental instruction and tutoring services right
away. It’s a great resource to use to be successful.
