Eric
Construction Engineering
Hometown: St. Charles, IL
Why Iowa State:
The
construction engineering program is one of the top
programs in the nation. I wanted to stay in the
Midwest–not many other universities offer this
degree.
Why
Construction Engineering:
This type of work
has been in my family since my great-grandfather. My
grandfather started
Adjustable
Forms, Inc., a concrete high-rise company. My
dad now runs the company, and I plan to work there
after I graduate.
Internship:
I worked on the
Trump Tower in Chicago. I worked with
scheduling–such as when the concrete needed to be
poured and when the steel should be set. I also
helped estimate production costs such as labor and
machinery.
Advice to New Students:
Don’t
live with people you know your first year. It can ruin friendships. Meeting a variety of people is
an important skill to learn.
