Best part of being an Iowa State student: The people – there are so many backgrounds I had never encountered before. It is interesting to interact with different people in classes and see things from another perspective.

How did you choose your major: I actually came to ISU in pre-architecture but soon found that Civil Engineering better suited me and my career goals. It was a relief that ISU had such a quality Engineering program when I switched.

Clubs/Organizations: I'm in The Engineering Ambassador and Mentorship program, I wanted to work on my public speaking skills and giving tours forced me to be comfortable talking in front of people. I'm also in Campus Crusade for Christ. I wanted to join a group with people who shared my beliefs

Work Experience: I spent the past summer as a structural engineering intern in the Twin Cities. I had the opportunity to work for a form that designed and built exteriors of skyscrapers. It was an awesome work experience!

Advice to New Students: College is what you make of it. There are hundreds of things you can get involved in, but they can also be distractions. It takes time management, self discipline and hard work, but you need to make time for yourself and enjoy it because it goes by fast.
