Activities for Engineering International Exchange Students
SIE has set up a variety of programs to help engineering international exchange students acclimate to ISU, meet fellow exchange students, and see a little of the Midwest.  The semester starts with a big welcome picnic that all of the engineering international exchange students and ISU engineering students returning from international experiences meet, eat, mingle, and play games.  It's a great chance to meet people from around the world!

As soon as the semester gets going we start having CAFÉs (Creating A Fellowship of Engineers).  These are monthly or bimonthly general SIE meetings as well as get togethers for students to share stories and experiences.  CAFÉs can include tailgating before an American football game, going to the theatre for a fifty cent movie, and having pizza with friends.

We also plan to travel to Minneapolis, an Iowa farm, go canoeing, camping, tubing, and skiing.  Each of these trips will show a different aspect of Iowa and the Midwest.

Check out our Events Calendar to find out what is coming up!!

Partner Program
The Partner Program began in 2003.  This program matches each incoming international exchange student with a similar Iowa State student who has studied abroad and shares similar interests, prior to arrival on campus.  Both exchange and ISU students benefit from this program.  International partners have the chance to get to know an ISU student before the arrive, then they can continue to hang out together throughout the semester.  ISU partners have the opportunity to spend time with an international student and learn more about the student's native culture.  It's a win-win situation!!

TAPA Team (Talking About Programs Abroad)
Many members of SIE have studied or are currently studying abroad.  We know how fun and exciting it can be to travel to a new place and learn about another culture.  Many members of SIE share their knowledge through the Engineering International Programs & Services' TAPA Team.  This gives students a chance to visit required classes, student groups, perspective students, Alumni, and Donors to share testimonials about their experiences studying abroad.

"Tour the World":  Information night
During "Tour the World" the first two floors of Marston Hall become an information fair sponsored by Engineering International Programs & Services.  ISU faculty coordinators representing over 30 international partnerships, students who have experienced those programs, and international exchange students currently studying engineering at ISU will staff information booths to promote international engineering program opportunities.  Many SIE members take this opportunity to share their countries culture, or their experiences traveling abroad.  "Tour the World" is held in early fall.  Watch for e-mails and check the EIPS Web site for more details!
